School Counselor
Hello!
My name is Haley Wollschlager and I am the K-12 School Counselor. I am happy to be a part of the Herman-Norcross School District. I am originally from Madison, MN graduating from Lac qui Parle Valley High School in 2019. I received my undergraduate in Human Services and Psychology from the University of Minnesota, Morris in 2023. I will complete my Master’s degree in School Counseling at Minnesota State University, Moorhead in May of 2025. This is my second year here at Herman-Norcross and I love being a part of the BUCS and Warriors!
I like to spend my spare time with friends and family, summers at the lake, attending sporting events, being an aunt, and working out when I can.
I have a passion for School Counseling and I LOVE being at a small school district because it allows me to connect one-on-one with each student. I will be able to support your student's personal/social, career, and academic needs, be your student's biggest advocate and a strong support for you as well. As your School Counselor, I hope to help your child grow, learn, find your passions and enjoy school. I can't wait to see what the 2024-2025 school year has in store!
I have some fun lessons planned for the school year and I am very excited for another great year at HNCS! Be sure to check out my parent connection after each lesson to see what we are talking about and please feel free to reach out if you have anything you would like to discuss about your student(s).

WHAT IS A SCHOOL COUNSELOR?
A School Counselor helps students with their personal/social, career, and academic needs. School Counselors offer support to students who are struggling with a variety of issues and help them work through problems and develop the tools necessary to succeed. A School Counselor works to promote a safe and nurturing school environment.
So what exactly does my School Counselor do?
We are great listeners! We enjoy spending time together, playing games, learning more about ourselves, and having conversations. We usually do this one-on-one or in groups with other students. Your school counselor might also visit your classroom to talk about important topics like bullying, emotions, friendships, careers, and more! The best part about talking to your school counselor is that whatever you share stays between you and the counselor. Nobody else has to know UNLESS of course there is a safety concern and it becomes unsafe for you or for other students. School counselors work closely with your teachers, parents, principal, and other important people to help you be the best version of yourself!
What types of things can my counselor help me with?
- Academics
- Anger management
- Anxiety
- Bullying
- Career readiness
- Conflict resolution
- Coping skills
- Divorce/changing families
- Emotional awareness
- Friendship skills
- Grief and Loss
- Self-Esteem
- Social skills

College Information
PSEO
- Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) is a program that allows 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students to earn college credit while still in high school. Students earn both college and high school credit by successful completion of the course. The deadline to notify HNCS of your intent to enroll in a course through the PSEO program is May 30th.
- Required notices, paperwork, and class registration is largely the responsibility of the student.
eCHS (eCampus in the High School)
- eCampus in the High School (eCHS) is a program offered through Minnesota State Community and Technical College. The college partners with high schools to provide online college level courses to high school students.
- HNCS is responsible for submitting the required paperwork and class registration.
- HNCS pays for all books required for eCHS classes, and students are responsible for turning in their books to HNCS at the conclusion of their college semester.
- Classes we have generally opened for registration: College Writing I, College Algebra, Intro to Statistics, Intro Sociology, General Psychology, Public Speaking.
- Once a student begins an eCHS course, their high school schedule will set aside allotted class time to complete for that semester.
- Eligibility requirements: Only open for Juniors (3.2 GPA) and Seniors (2.8 GPA)
- There may be additional requirements depending on the class
Important factors in choosing college level courses
- Selecting courses that will fulfill high school graduation requirements while also earning your general college credits.
- Selecting courses that will fulfill requirements within your post-secondary program of choice after high school.
- Taking college classes in high school is an excellent opportunity, but it is also one that should be taken very seriously. The grade you earn in the college course will remain on your permanent high school transcript and college transcript.
- If the class does not go well and you choose to drop the course after it has started, there can be negative impacts regarding your college transcript and financial aid eligibility.
- If a student withdraws from a course after the start of the semester, the student will automatically be placed within a course offered at HNCS. They will receive a W on their college and high school transcript from that course.
- eCHS or PSEO credits are considered “dual credit” courses, and will be earned towards their high school graduation requirements and post secondary credit. This means that post-secondary coursework can be used to determine academic eligibility for HNCS activities.
