Our History

The first Herman School building was built on the current property in 1882 at a cost of $5,300. Our first graduating class was the class of 1892. In 1902 we began construction of a brick elementary school which was completed in 1904. In 1935 the high school addition was constructed on the south end of the current building.

Construction began on our next project in 1949 with the vocational agriculture and music rooms which were then occupied in 1950.

In 1970 we consolidated with Norcross. Although the Norcross High School students had been attending Herman School beginning with 8th grade, this consolidation permanently closed the Norcross Elementary School and moved all students to the Herman facility. We also went from "Spring Primary" to a full year kindergarten class.

Our final construction project was completed in 1974, housing the new gymnasium, band room, and locker room facilities. During the summer of 2002, a major renovation project (partially funded by state grants) replaced windows, plumbing, and heating systems.
