PSEO is a program that allows 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students to earn both high school and college credit while still in high school through enrollment in and successful completion of college courses at eligible participating postsecondary institutions. Most PSEO courses are offered on the campus of the postsecondary institution, but some courses are offered online.

Each participating postsecondary institution sets its own requirements for enrollment into PSEO courses. 11th and 12th grade students may take PSEO courses on a full or part-time basis. 10th grade students may initially enroll in one Career and Technical Education (CTE) PSEO course if they earned “Meets” or “Exceeds” on the Grade 8 Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA) reading assessment. If the 10th grade student earns at least a C in that class, he/she may take an additional CTE course the following semester.

Students must meet the PSEO residency and eligibility requirements and abide by participation limits specified in Minnesota Statute. There is no charge to students for books, fees, or tuition. Students need to notify the district by May 30 of the intent to enroll in PSEO courses. Enrollment in a PSEO course does not prohibit a student from participating in extracurricular activities.

PSEO grades are listed on the high school transcript exactly as they are received from the postsecondary institution. The following conversion is used for PSEO credits to high school credits:

4 college credits = 1.0 high school credit

3 college credits = 0.75 high school credit

2 college credits = 0.50 high school credit

1 college credit = 0.25 high school credit
